On Friday night, 26 October, from 17.00 to 20.00 Kokstad College will be serving delicious E.G. Lamb on the spit. The meal will include a main course, pudding and coffee. You can either eat your meal in the school’s revamped gardens or have it as a take away. Tickets are available at the school at R120.00 each.
Renowned Gardener and Author Val Payn will be presenting a talk entitled “ILIMA, IZITHEBE AND ISIHLOPOYIYA’: Myths, Legends and Stories of the Pondoland Wild Coast. Come and hear about the murderous blood thirsty tree “Umdlebe”, the sacred twin protecting Euphobia, and Abantuwelanthwe, a tribe of sea dwelling people who cause vicious storms if humans do not show proper respect to the ocean. Learn about the traditional Pondo calender, why people build round houses, and why horned cattle are such an important status symbol. This talk and slide show is based on research Val Payn did along the Pondoland Wild Coast for her Master’s thesis, and explores the connections between land and culture in Pondoland.
